PURPOSE:To display an explanatory message for grammar information used for translation in response to a user's indication by using a translation rule dictionary, which contains syntax rules and explanatory messages for the syntax rules, as a constituent element. CONSTITUTION:A translation execution part 4 when performing translation using a word dictionary 2 and the translation rule dictionary 3 stores explanatory messages for the syntax rules in the applied translation rule dictionary 3 in an original and translation information management table 5 if the explanatory messages are present, and stores information on the position of a word applied with the syntax rule in the original sentence. An English sentence and its equivalents which are stored right after the translating process are displayed on a display means 6 while made to correspond to each other. Then when the user inputs an explanatory message display indication through an input means 1, the translation execution part 4 refers to the original and translation information management table 5, namely, displays explanatory messages and emphasizes and displays the original sentence character string corresponding to the position information. Consequently, user's dictionary consulting operation is reduced and the translation can be carried out while the grammar is learnt. |
