PURPOSE: To enable fluid to be transported with a relatively tiny amount of operating energy by constituting a pumping means so that magnetic fields are periodically applied to a magnetostriction material means to cause magnetostriction in the means and the fluid is moved in one direction using dimensional changes caused by the magnetostriction. CONSTITUTION: This magnetostriction fluid pump 10 includes a tube portion 12 of a magnetostriction material having opposite open ends 14, 16, has an electric coil 20 wound around the tube portion 12, and generates a magnetic field inside the tube portion 12 by passing electricity to the electric coil 20. First and second one-way valves 22, 24 are disposed at the open ends 14, 16, respectively, and when the coil 20 generates a pulse of 10 megacycles, the hole 18 is narrowed during extension of the tube portion 12. Then the one-way valves 22, 24 are opened and closed alternately at almost the same frequency by very high speed reciprocating movement, and a small amount of fluid in an inlet conduit 26 flows into the hole 18 and is then discharged from the one-way valve 24 by the buildup of fluid pressure. |
