PURPOSE:To desulfurize and denitrate a gas released to air containing sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides at high concentrations. CONSTITUTION:Combustion waste gas containing sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides and mixed with ammonia is brought into contact with manganese ore to desulfurize and denitrate the waste gas. The manganese ore should have 5m<2>/g or higher specific surface area measured by nitrogen absorbing amount by a Bett method and contains 40wt.% or more manganese dioxide.
