An internal combustion engine, especially for motor vehicles, is provided with a fuel injection system which can operate selectively with gasoline or LPG. The LPG is injected in the liquid state after it has been drawn from a tank 5 by means of a pump 4. The surplus quantity of LPG fed to injectors 2 returns to tank 5 by means of a return pipe 6 in which there is fitted a pressure regulator 7 which chokes pipe 6 in such a way that pump 4 creates a substantially constant pressure rise as the pressure of the LPG in the tank changes. In this way LPG in the liquid state is injected at a pressure which always lies within the range within which injectors 2 operate correctly, despite changes in the pressure of the LPG in tank 5 as temperature varies.
