METHOD AND DEVICE FOR MEASURING BANK HEIGHT OF CALENDER

PURPOSE:To directly determine the height of bank required for controlling the thickness of a product in a calender so that measuring can be made with high accuracy even in the case of a second bank and following banks. CONSTITUTION:A distance L to the surface of a bank is detected at predetermined time intervals by means of a reflection type distance sensor 18 disposed approximately perpendicular to the surface of bank and a signal detected by the sensor 18 is peak-held at a peak-hold circuit 20 so that a bank height H is obtained from the peak-held value at an operation circuit 24. Even if a reflected signal cannot be sensed due to the fluctuation of the bank surface, by using the peak-held value, bank height can be directly obtained. And by merely providing the reflection type distance sensor 18, bank height can be measured with ease and with high accuracy and a device can be constituted at low cost.
