PURPOSE:To suppress the nonvolatile content (residual content) of waste ink as compared with conventional apparatuses by heating discharged ink (waste ink) with a heating means in an apparatus wherein ink is properly discharged toward a containing means by operation other than recording. CONSTITUTION:An ink jet recording apparatus has a pump 53 which applies a suction force to the forcible discharge of ink and sucks ink received in a cap 51 at the time of a discharge recovery processing (cleaning) by such a forcible discharge and a discharge recovery processing by preliminary discharge. Waste ink sucked by the pump 53 is discharged into a waste ink tank 55 through a tube 57 and stored therein. In this case, an electric heating plate 71 whose one end is connected to a carriage motor 31 and which is heated by heat generated from said motor, is provided at the bottom of the waste ink tank 55. By this electric heating plate, the waste ink 72 discharged into the waste ink tank 55 by the preliminary discharge operation and the discharge recovery operation during printing operation is heated, and its drying is promoted. |
