A method of determining blood flow parameter values starts from blood flow velocity values which are determined and imaged to provide a picture of the blood flow in an examination area (4) via ultrasonic scanning on a large number of measurement sites spatially distributed in the examination area (4). A gate selection unit (20) is used to delimit an area in the image in which at least one blood flow parameter value is to be formed which is characteristic for the blood flow or blood flows presented in this area.
