Method and arrangement for locating metal parts

The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for locating metal parts in the conveyed flow of belt conveyors (band conveyors) by means of a metal detecting device. The object is to determine the position of the metal parts in the conveyed flow with a low outlay and a quite high accuracy. This is achieved by virtue of the fact that after the metal detecting device responds the belt drive is shut down, its start up is blocked and the overtravel of the conveyor belt until it comes to rest is measured by counting pulses generated by the conveyor belt in a manner proportional to the travel; pulse marking is undertaken on the belt conveyor downstream of the metal detecting device as a function of travel; the number of the pulses after the belt has stopped is counted; the location found is determined using the number of pulses with the aid of the pulse marking on the belt conveyor; and the block on the belt drive is lifted after removal of the metal part.
