Soot burn-off filter (3) made of ceramic material for the exhaust gas system of a diesel engine having exhaust gas recycling and/or exhaust gas turbocharging with at least one mechanical after filter for the exhaust gases. The mechanical after filter is a heat resistant metal mesh (7) with a pore diameter of less than one micron. ADVANTAGE - Simple after filter able to trap fine particles of ceramic material which may come loose from the main filter.
