The invention relates to a method of preparing a composition substantially comprising a polymer and a cross-linker for use in the preparation of thermosetting powder coatings (powder paints) by a polymer which is solid at room temperature being mixed with a cross-linker at a temperature at which the viscosity of the polymer is less than 5000 dPas (measured according to Emila), employing means to effect a homogeneous composition in a sufficiently short time for less than 20% of the reactive groups of one of the components to have reacted, and cooling the composition after mixing and subjecting it to size reduction. Preferably, mixing takes place in a static mixer at a temperature above 140 degree C.
