Packs are often discharged from a packaging machine at irregular distances from one another. However, for further processing, e.g. for the insertion of packs (10) into a pack store (22, 23), and for the attachment of adhesive strips or adhesive labels in a tape station (26), etc., regular, correct distances are desired between adjacent packs. These are achieved in that the packs, on their transporting path, run through a retardation region (31, 32) and, upon leaving the same, are at a correct, adjustable distance from one another. The retardation regions (31, 32) are formed by retardation belts (33, 34) which are arranged on both sides of the movement path of the packs (10) and act on the sideways-directed surfaces thereof with the effect of retarding the transportation movement. <IMAGE>
