Method of purifying waste water

A method is described for the biological purification (biological treatment) of material to be purified (treated), the material to be purified being subjected to a treatment with anaerobic bacteria and aerobic bacteria, in such a way that the treatment with the anaerobic bacteria and with the aerobic bacteria takes place in the same liquid phase having an oxygen concentration of at least 100μg/l. The anaerobic bacteria are present in biofilms having a thickness of at least 100μm and remain active under the aerobic conditions.
