Salt-free esters of fatty acids with oligoglycerins or with addition reaction products of ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide with oligoglycerins can be prepared by condensation of glycerin in the presence of basic alkaline earth compounds as the catalyst at temperatures between 200 and 280 DEG C, possibly subsequent reaction of the oligoglycerins obtained with ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide, addition of an amount of acid equivalent to the catalysts and esterification of the oligoglycerins or oligoglycerin (poly)ethoxylates and/or (poly)propoxylates obtained with fatty acids at temperatures between 150 and 270 DEG C, and separation of the sparingly soluble alkaline earth salts obtained after esterification.
