发明名称 ORIENTING DEVICE FOR LIQUID CRYSTAL OPTICAL ELEMENT
摘要 PURPOSE:To make it possible to adjust the shearing quantity to be impressed and to prevent the damage by a pair of orienting rolls without exchanging the rolls by consisting the rolls of materials respectively varying in compression load and impressing an electric field to a liquid crystal optical element to be mode to pass between the pressurized orienting rolls. CONSTITUTION:A pair of the orienting rolls 1, 2 consist of the materials having the compression load of respectively different magnitudes. The orienting device has a pressurizing means 3 for bringing a pair of the orienting rolls 1, 2 into pressurized contact with each other and an energizing means 4 for impressing the electric field to the liquid crystal optical element at the time of passing the liquid crystal optical element between the pressurized rolls. Namely, two pieces of the orienting rolls 1, 2 consisting of the materials respectively varying in the compression load are brought into pressurized contact with each other and the liquid crystal optical element is made to pass between the rolls meshed with each other to impress the shearing by the bending deformation formed by the deformation of the roll receiving the smaller compression load to the element. The bipoles within liquid crystal molecules are aligned in the electric field direction when the electric field is impressed between the upper and lower electrodes at this time and, therefore, the liquid crystal is oriented in a direction parallel with the substrates and perpendicular to the shearing.
