Prepn. of 2,3-di:hydro-5-beta-1H-imidazol-1-yl-ethoxy-1H-indene-1-carboxylic acid - having antithrombotic and anti-platelet aggregation activity

Prepn. of 2,3-dihydro-5-(beta -(1H-imidazol- 1-yl)ethoxy)-1H-inden-1-carboxylic acid comprises reacting 5-methoxy-1-indanone with trimethyl silylcyanate in the presence of a Lewis acid; acid hydrolysis; treating with trichlorate in acid medium; acid demethylation; esterification with an aliphatic alcohol; alkylation with 2-chloroethylsulphonate; reaction with imidazole and finally hydrolysing using mineral acid.
