Adjustable towbar for lorry trailers consisting of a guide pipe (8) which is attached to the customary triangular support structure (1) of the hitch device and a towbar pipe (3), which slides therein in the longitudinal direction, with coupling eye (2). The guide pipe has an electropneumatic braking device which secures the towbar pipe in any desired position and can be actuated from the driver's cab by means of a solenoid valve. The distance between the towing vehicle and the trailer can thus be changed as desired even while travelling. By means of a second solenoid valve the axles of the trailer can be braked separately for manoeuvring purposes. <IMAGE>
