The machine (10) includes a bidirectional force-resistance mechanism (16) in the form of a cylinder (14) with a piston (142) and piston rod (144). A lever (14) is mounted to a framework (120) which includes a vertical support member (22, 24, 26) and a horizontal support member (28, 30). This piston rod (144) is attached to one end of the lever (14) and the cylinder (16) is attached to the vertical support member (22) of the frame (20). Foot pedals (120) are attached to one end of the lever (14). A stationary handle bar (60) is also provided on the vertical support member (22). A fluid passageway (160) connects chambers (146, 148) on opposite sides of the piston (142) inside of the cylinder (140) and by adjusting a valve (167) which is positioned in the fluid passageway (160) as it forces the fluid from one chamber (146) to the other chamber (148) can be selectively varied. |
