PURPOSE: To adjust the luminance of the whole image by providing a means which applies a maintaining pulse of desired level to a binary display element as each of the pixels constituting a screen of each scan. CONSTITUTION: A video signal is inputted to a terminal 1, a processing circuit 2 generates a primary-color image signal, and an A/D converter 3 converts it into an (n)-bit PCM signal and stores it in a memory 4, bit by bit. A control circuit 12 sends various control signals synchronized with the input signal 1. Pulse generating circuits 5 and 6 and drivers 8 and 9 scan a display panel 11 vertically and horizontally. A pulse generating circuit 7 generate maintaining pulses whose number matches the weight of write pulses of the circuit 6 and applies them to the panel 11 through a driver 10. Further, a luminance adjusting circuit 14 is provided and normally controls the number of the maintaining pulses, but when, specially, a block level needs to be lowered, an indication is sent to the signal processing circuit 2 to lower the DC level of the video signal of the A/D converter 3. With this constitution, the luminance of the whole image can be adjusted. |
