- The invention relates to a mechanically reinforced thermally insulating felted structure and to a process for producing it. - The subject of the invention is a mechanically reinforced thermally insulating felted structure consisting of fibres or filaments of refractory material which are aggregated and interlaced randomly or not, characterised in that it is formed from a block of fibres or filaments (1 to 3; M), in the mass of which are inserted slivers (P, P', P") of a refractory material, of which at most one end is flush with one of the surfaces of the said block, the assembly of fibres, filaments and slivers being covered at least partially with an additional stiffening binder. - The invention is used for producing structures made from rigid, thermally insulating and low-density material. <IMAGE>
