Two-stroke internal combustion engine 102 for actuating a flexible line cutting implement 100 swept in monoflux and having a scavenging cylinder 608 and an exhaust cylinder 604 connected by a common combustion chamber 609 and inclined towards each other. The piston 602, 606 of each cylinder causes one of the overhanging crankshafts 402, 502 driven by counterweights 406, 506 bearing teeth to rotate. The crankshafts connected, in the case of one of them to a flywheel/fan 414 and, in the case of the other, to a starter 515 extend in the opposite direction for automatic balancing. The piston 606 of the scavenging cylinder 608 is retarded relative to the exhaust cylinder 604. The exhaust port, narrowed to improve compression in the crank case 114, opens before the scavenging port and closes before it. A carburettor 109 and a silencer 116 are mounted on each side of the exhaust cylinder 604. <IMAGE>
