PURPOSE: To improve the durability of a bearing by forming a spherical base material of a hard material such as a metal, and coating an artificial diamond material on its outer spherical surface. CONSTITUTION: A coating on an outer surface of a steel ball 13 is formed of a hard artificial diamond formed by the settlement of carbon atoms from a substance containing carbon atoms such as a mixture gas of methane gas mixed with hydrogen gas, or when a product in the mixture gas is subjected to the beam-irradiated intense radioactivity. Artificial diamond coating is formed on an inner surface of an outer race 11 or its ball engagement groove 12, a semi-cylindrical inner surface 16 engaged with a holder 15 or the ball 13, and inner race 14 or only its outer cylindrical surface. The depth or thickness of the artificial diamond coating is determined by the size of a bearing, the expected load, the service temperature, and the impact. In addition, chromium and a chromium alloy is lap-coated to protect the artificial diamond. The durability of the bearing can be improved thereby. |
