PURPOSE:To surely make path guidance with sound announcement even when branch points such as intersections or interchanges exist nearby in a path guiding device for a vehicle by sound or screen display. CONSTITUTION:A path guidance controller 26 reads out the map information around its vehicle from a map information memory section 10, and it superimposes and displays the present vehicle position and advance direction and the path stored in a path memory section 24 on a display section 28. When the position of the vehicle approaches an intersection where the course is to be changed, the path guidance controller 26 instructs a sound controller 30 to generate a sound corresponding to the path guidance at the intersection. The sound controller 30 compares the distance dx from the previous intersection with a prescribed distance. When the distance dx is the prescribed distance or below, the output timing of the sound announcement of 'arriving at ***soon' after leaving the previous intersection is controlled, and the sound guidance is surely made immediately before the intersection where the course is to be changed. |
