Station for manually coding flat objects

The invention relates in particular to postal sorting. It consists of a manual station (P) in which objects are coded before they are conveyed to a sorting machine. The station comprises a console (4) and a centrally-positioned horizontal work surface, the front edge of which overhangs a transverse conveyor chute which leads to the sorting machine. It also comprises a support for boxes (8) containing objects, which support is located behind the work surface and can assume a display position in which it is inclined forwards so as to make it easier for the coding operator to pick up the objects in the boxes; and a coding keyboard support (9) on one or other side of the work surface. <IMAGE>
