<p>PURPOSE:To treat nitrogen oxide without requiring a lot of energy and with minimum energy by bringing gas to be treated including nitrogen oxide of low concentration into contact with water previously passed between electrodes of electrolytic voltage of water or less by a gas absorption process before removing water droplets. CONSTITUTION:Water is ionized into H<+> and OH<-> at its decomposition voltage or less, and the H<+> is turned into H2 which is discharged, but the OH<-> is hydrated with water to form hydroxyl ions which present alkalinity. Thus, when gas to be treated comes into contact with water, NO2 of nitrogen oxides in the gas to be treated becomes more likely to form nitric acid, etc., than ordinary water, and the collection efficiency of nitrogen oxide to the gas to be treated is improved. Since NO2 is more soluble in water than NO, when it comes into contact with water, it turns into nitric acid and the residual NO turns into nitrous acid to be dissolved in water. When nitrogen oxide contained in the gas to be treated consists mainly of NO, ozone generated by an ozonizer is added to and mixed with the gas to be treated to turn NO into NO2, allowing the absorption to be promoted.</p> |
