PURPOSE:To provide a new antibiotic useful as an antibacterial agent for Gram- positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of the formula (R1 is mannosylglucose; R2 is mannose; R3 is ristosamine), which can be obtained by culturing A-39893- productive bacteria which belong to Actinoplanes such as Actinoplanes missouriensis SANK 60993 strain (FERM-BP-4331). This compound has the following physicochemical characteristics: (1) properties: amphoteric, soluble to water, white powdery; (2) specific optical rotation: [alpha]<25>D=-7.2 deg. (C=0.1, 0.01N-HCl); (3) elemental analysis (%): C: 49.93, H: 5.07, N: 5.14, Cl: 2.26; (4) molecular formula: C89H99N8O40C1; (5) molecular weight: 1954 (FAB-MS): [M+H]<+>, 1995: with Cl as 35); (6) solubility: soluble to water, methanol, sparingly soluble to acetone, insoluble to ethyl acetate, chloroform, benzene. |
