The subject of the present invention is a rotary actuator (10) controlled by a fluid which comprises a sealed volume (8) delimited by a body (2) and at least one end plate (4) sealing off one end of the sealed volume (8), the said sealed volume (8) containing at least one stationary wall (24) borne by the body (2) and at least one moving wall (26) borne by a rotor (6), the stationary wall (24) interacting with the moving wall (26) in order to constitute, inside the said volume (8), at least one first high-pressure chamber (20) and at least one second low-pressure chamber (22). The said seal (12) is mounted freely in the said annular groove (13) and the actuator (10) further includes at least one rolling-contact bearing (14) which supports the rotor (6), the said rolling-contact bearing (14) being mounted compressed and bearing against the said end plate (4) so that the clearance (30) between the end plate (4) and the rotor (6) close to the said chambers (20, 22) is predetermined so as to allow stabilised flow of the said annular seal (12). <IMAGE>
