In the case of the hinge fitting a hinge part which is assigned to the seat and a hinge part assigned to the backrest are connected to each other via a pivoting pin, an adjusting and fixing device, which determines the position of the two hinge parts with respect to each other and is designed as a gear mechanism, being provided. Toothed parts are assigned to the hinge parts, one toothed part, which acts as an intermediate element, being mounted on the hinge part belonging to the seat part. The intermediate element has stops and by means of a catch lever, which is mounted on the hinge part belonging to the seat part, is releasably connected to said hinge part. A stud bolt is attached to the hinge part belonging to the seat part. In order to prevent the seat cushion from springing back into the forward-folding position of the backrest, the stud bolt protrudes, with an inherently resilient region, into the pivoting path of the stop on the intermediate element, which stop is situated above the stud bolt in the in-use position of the backrest, the stop, in the end position of the forwards-pivoting movement of the backrest, being reached behind, with limited force, by the stud bolt in a locking manner.
