<p>This instant invention is novel uses of known benzothiophenes or benzofurans and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. Such compounds as 5-methoxy-3-(1-methylethoxy)-N-1H-tetrazol-5-ylbenzo[b]thiophene-2-carboxamide is used for treating inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. The instant invention is also an assay for noninvasively monitoring inflammation.</p> |
