<p>A novel method for treating keratinous materials, particularly hair, to impart a permanent shape thereto, especially for hair perming, comprising the steps of (i) applying to said keratinous material a composition containing cysteine and/or cysteamine and/or a salt thereof, the pH of said composition being 9-10 when it contains cysteine or 8-9 when it contains cysteamine, and the devices (curlers) for mechanically tensioning the keratinous material being put in place before, during or after the application of said composition; (ii) heat treating (heating) the thus treated keratinous material at 30-60 °C; (iii) rinsing the treated keratinous material; (iv) allowing the rinsed keratinous material to rest; and (v) separating the resulting keratinous material from the tensioning devices used in step (i). Said method has, inter alia, the advantage that oxidising (setting) agents are not required.</p> |
