Method for reducing the exhaust emissions when switching off internal combustion engines

A method for reducing the exhaust emission when switching off internal combustion engines is proposed. The method serves to reduce the emission of unburnt fuel mixture after switching off the engine and especially when subsequently restarting. For this purpose, the injection is temporarily switched off after switching off the internal combustion engine, that is opening of the ignition lock, and the switching off of the ignition delayed to such an extent that at least one ignition still occurs in the cylinders (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
