Circuit arrangement for an intermediate adapter to connect parts of a communication system

The intermediate adapter is intended to represent an interface for the connection of parts of a communication system, only a single line pair being required for the exchange of all types of data. For each transmission direction, changeover multiplexers are provided which alternately feed the connection line with data packets which are to be exchanged asynchronously and which also contain switching information, and synchronously through-connected useful data. This is done with the aid of a controller which furthermore adapts the data format and controls the conversions from parallel to serial and vice versa. The cabling cost incurred in the connecting of parts of switching systems is extremely low. The few connection points are of simple and uniform design.
