FORMING EYELETS IN GASKETS

A reinforcing eyelet (E) around a hole (H) in a gasket (G) is formed by forming a 90 DEG bend in sheet material (10) around a hole (12) to form a generally cylindrical projection (16) projecting from a head (18) of the eyelet (E). Next, the projection (16) is inserted in the hole (H) in the gasket (G) and a 90 DEG bend is formed in the projection (16) to form a head (50) on the opposite side of the gasket (G). At least one of the 90 DEG bends is formed by a single pressing operation which forms the bend as two curves (25 and 26) separated by a substantially straight portion (28).
