A strain relief device for cables (4) or wires has a base part (1) having a number of tapering slots (2) which are separated from one another by teeth (3) which form a row of teeth, and are used for accommodating the cables (4), as well as a clamping part for fixing the cables (4) in the slots (2). The clamping part has at least one plunger which can be lowered immediately in front of the slot (2), in the direction of the taper of said slot (2), and can be locked in a number of positions. The lowering of the plunger results in the cables (4) being pressed into the slots (2) and thus being firmly clamped. The clamping part is formed as a strap (shackle) with clamping strips and can be locked in a number of positions on the side parts (5). This results in it being possible to clamp cables (4) of different thickness firmly. The device makes it possible to secure a number of cables (4) or wires, each of the same thickness, very easily and quickly. <IMAGE>
