The invention relates to a device for locking two elements, which can be pivoted in relation to one another, in a predetermined relative position, in particular in order to lock the foldable backrest to the seat component of a vehicle seat, which device has a locking bolt which is mounted on the one element and a rotary catch which is pivotably arranged on the other element and engages over the locking bolt with a catch mouth, and a locking latch which drops into the rotary catch in a positively engaging fashion. In order to achieve complete freedom from play of the locking device in its locked position independently of tolerance limits, on the one hand the locking bolt rests in a three-point support one point of which is formed by the catch-mouth edge of the rotary catch and on the other hand the pivoting bearing of the locking latch is constructed in such a way that a force which acts on the rotary catch so as to press its catch-mouth edge onto the locking bolt is produced as a result of a limited displacement movement of the locking catch at the end of its dropping-movement into the rotary catch.
