The electromagnetically operable pressure control valve according to the invention has a control piston (39) whose sealing piston sections (40, 41) are guided in a longitudinal bore (29, 30) of a distributor housing (27). In order to be able to control high hydraulic pressures even at low magnetic forces of the magnet part and at the same time guarantee a relatively large control-piston diameter which is thus simple to cope with in production, the piston sections (40, 41) have different diameters. Thus the control pressure applied between the two piston sections (40, 41) acts on two different effective areas at the piston sections.
