Extension for an input device

In order to protect (safeguard) an extension (11) for an input device (13) of a computer (15) against sabotage or theft, the extension (11) can be retracted and extended by a drive motor (19). The drive motor (19) is assigned a power supply (21) which can be switched on and off by means of a main switching device (23), the actuation of which controls the operating state of the computer (15). A secondary switching device (25) for retracting and extending the extension can be actuated at any time by an operator when the computer (15) is in the switched-on state, whereas in the switched-off state when the main switching device (23) is in the "off" position, neither the operator nor a third party can extend the extension.
