A position sensor has a coil 17, arranged in a housing 1, and a core 18 which can move relative to said coil and dips into a space surrounded by the coil. A transmitting device is used to move the coil 18 in the direction of its longitudinal axis 12 as a function of the rotary movement of the shaft 4 provided with an eccentric pin 8. The transmitting device is operationally connected, on the one hand, to the eccentric pin 8 of the shaft 4 and, on the other hand, to the coil 18. The transmitting device consists of a sliding member 11 which is guided in a sliding fashion parallel to the direction of movement of the coil 18 in the housing 1 and has a control slot (groove) 16 in which the eccentric pin 8 of the shaft 4 engages. <IMAGE>
