The invention relates to a process for the microbial disposal of nitrogen monoxide, in which nitrogen monoxide or a nitrogen monoxide-containing gas mixture is brought into contact with microorganisms and a monohydric or dihydric alcohol is fed to the microorganisms. In particular, the invention relates to the use of methanol and propane-1,2-diol for the microbial disposal of nitrogen monoxide.
