A golf club, particularly an iron club, has a striking surface (5) which slopes forwardly/downwardly in the striking direction of the club, and a sole (6). The intersection of the striking surface with the sole defines an edge (7). The straight shaft (15) of the club has a shaft axis (20). The edge (7) is intersected by the shaft axis (20), or by a tangent to the front surface of the shaft and parallel with the shaft axis, as seen in the striking direction of the club. The club head is balanced so that when the shaft axis (20) lies in the horizontal plane and the striking surface (5) faces upwards, the club head will adopt a stable rest position in which the edge (7) lies in the horizontal plane. |
