PURPOSE:To produce an amide compound with industrial advantage by preparing specified active manganese dioxide by using low-cost molecular oxygen as an oxidizing agent and reacting a nitrile compound with water in the presence of the prepared manganese dioxide as a catalyst in a liquid phase. CONSTITUTION:An amide compound is produced by reacting a nitrile compound with water in a liquid phase. The catalyst used in this reaction is prepared by supporting a divalent manganese compound (e.g. manganese nitrate) on titanium oxide or zirconium oxide and oxidizing it by molecular oxygen such as air. This catalyst can be produced at low cost and, therefore, used on industrial scale. As the divalent manganese compound, manganese sulfonate, manganese chloride, manganese carbonyl, etc., are exemplified in addition to manganese nitrate and can be used in the form of anhydrous salt or hydrate. In addition, two or more kinds of manganese salts may be used in combination. |
