<p>PURPOSE:To suppress the influence of a lateral electric field produced between adjacent pixel electrodes of the active matrix type liquid crystal display device. CONSTITUTION:The active matrix type liquid crystal display device consists of a main substrate 1 and an opposite substrate 2 which are arranged opposite each other across a specific gap. A liquid crystal layer 3 which has constant thickness B is held between both the substrates 1 and 2. On the top surface of the main substrate 1, an element wiring area including plural thin film transistor elements and electric conductors 4 is formed. A flattening layer 5 is formed so as to fill unevenness of the surface of the element wiring area. Matrix-shaped pixel electrodes 6 are formed on the flat top surface of the flattening layer 5. The internal size A between adjacent pixel electrodes 6 is set larger than the thickness size of the liquid crystal layer 3 to make a secondary lateral electric field smaller than a regular longitudinal electric field.</p> |
