The present invention is directed to novel urea group-containing polyisocyanates modified with long chain compounds having molecular weights of 400 to about 10,000. The present invention is also directed to a process for the preparation of modified urea group-containing polyisocyanates by reacting starting polyisocyanates which are free from urea groups with water to form urea groups in an inert reaction medium or in an aqueous mixture containing a dispersion stabilizer, wherein the starting polyisocyanates are mixed or reacted with long chain compounds having molecular weights of 400 to about 10,000 before reacting the starting polyisocyanates with water and/or the long chain compounds are added to the inert reaction medium or to the water.
