A steel tube (1) is described as an element for building a structure, which has a body (1a) coated with a film of plastic resin (1b) and a strip (1c) of conductive plastic resin formed right along the length of the body, the film and the strip being extruded to form a single piece. The conductive strip (1c) readily discharges the static electricity which may be developed in a structure made of tubes of this type, which tubes are joined together so that the conductive strips abut each other, and hence the structure is earthed. This embodiment allows reduced use of expensive carbon black as conductive substance for preventing electrification. Furthermore, various colours can be used in the plastic resin to form the surface of the tubes for decorative purposes. <IMAGE>
