PURPOSE:To obtain the naphthalate by selecting the amounts of the constituents of a specified catalyst and the ratio therebetween and specifying the optical characteristics of the obtained polymer. CONSTITUTION:This naphthalate is a polyester made from an acid component based on naphthalenedicarboxylic acid and a glycol component based on ethylene glycol, and produced by using a catalyst comprising manganese compound, a phosphorus compound and an antimony compound and satisfying the relationships: 0.7mol<=Mn<=1.7mol, 0.5<=Mn/P<=1.2, and 1.0mol<=Sb<=3mol (wherein the amounts are represented in terms of the number of moles of the elements par 10<6>g of the acid component) and having a transmittance of 95%/cm or above to light at a wavelength of 400nm as measured by dissolving 10mg/ml of the polymer in a hexafluoroisopropanol/chloroform 2/3 mixed solvent and a difference of this transmittance from the transmittance to light of 420nm of 3% or below. |
