PURPOSE:To detect the weak infrared absorption spectrum of a low- concentration substance to be analyzed (solute) without diminishing the separating ability of a column by fitting a multiple-reflection prism for infrared rays to the outside of an infrared spectroscopic cell. CONSTITUTION:The window of an infrared spectroscopic cell is formed by hollowing out part of the cell and fitting a multiple-reflection prism for infrared rays 2 in the hollowed out part. Any material, for example, zinc selenide or germanium can be used for the prism 2 when the material is insoluble in the moving phase of liquid chromatograph and transmits infrared rays. However, it is preferable to use a mixed crystal of thallium bromide and thallium iodide, potassium bromide, etc., when a nonpolar organic solvent is used as the moving phase. It is also preferable to attach a secular-finished metallic plate 1 to the prism 2 forming the window of the cell. |
