PURPOSE:To enable retrieval by kinds by using a proper keyboard when a stored document is read out without using a keyboard. CONSTITUTION:A CPU 1 extracts a word or phrase showing the kind of a document to be retrieved from a document kind dictionary in a ROM 2 by using a key word inputted from the keyboard 4 and stores it in a memory area A. Then the CPU 1 selects the word or phrase indicating the kind of the document in said document kind dictionary by using the word or phrase of the highest frequency of use among documents saved in an external storage device 11 as a key and stores it in a memory area C together with the name of the saved document having the word or phrase. Then the CPU 1 compares the contents of the memory areas A and C with each other, selects the document name corresponding to the word or phrase with a common word or phrase showing the kind of the document from the memory area C, and displays it on a display device 6. Consequently, the name of the saved document of the kind that the key word indicates is displayed on the display device 6 and presented to a user. |
