High-voltage circuit breaker comprising, for each pole, two series-mounted cut-off chambers placed at the top of an insulating column and arranged in a T or in a V, each cut-off chamber including an insulating casing terminated by a cylindrical extremity, characterised in that the insulating casing (1, 2; 1A, 2A) is at least 10% longer than the casings of conventional circuit breakers with distribution capacitors and in that, moreover, fixed at the extremity of each chamber is a metal ring (4, 5; 4A, 5A) in the form of a torus centred on the axis of the casing and the plane of which is perpendicular to the said axis, the diameter ( PHI 0) of the generator circle of the torus being greater than or equal to 60 millimetres for 420 kV chambers and greater than or equal to 80 millimetres for 550 kV circuit breakers, the ratio of the diameter ( PHI 1) of the torus to the diameter ( PHI 2) of the cylindrical extremity (7) of the casing being greater than or equal to 2 for circuit breaker chambers with two T-shaped chambers, and greater than or equal to 3 for circuit breakers with two V-shaped chambers. <IMAGE>
