PURPOSE:To obtain an acceleration sensor which does not generate the slide resistance even if a sensing mass shifts in the direction differnt from the center axis direction of the acceleration sensor, at alow cost. CONSTITUTION:An acceleration sensor is equipped with a sensing mass 56 which has a circular hole 58 and inertia-shifts in the sharp deceleration of a vehicle, compression coil spring 62 for urging the sensing mass 56 toward an upper body 42, body which has a cylindrical projection part 54 having the smaller diameter than the circular hole 58 on the sensing mass 56, inside, and a ball 64 which makes contact with the projection part 54 of the body and is engaged with tee circular hole 58 of the sensing mass 56. Since such the constitution is adopted, the clearance between the ball 64 and the sensing mass 64 does not bary even if the direction of the shift of the sensing mass changes, the generation of the slide resistance is prevented even if the sensing mass 56 tends to shift in the direction different from the center axis direction of the accelerating speed sensor (direction of arrow).
