PURPOSE:To effectively utilize coffee grounds and efficiently recover natural quinic acid by hydrolyzing coffee grounds with calcium hydroxide and separating the hydrolyzate into a solid part and a liq. part. CONSTITUTION:100 pts.wt. coffee grounds are suspended in 500-1,500 pts.wt. water, mixed with 6-24 pts.wt. calcium hydroxide, hydrolyzed at 75 deg.C or higher for 10-50min, and subjected to solid-liq. separation, giving a solid part and a liq. part. The solid part is dried to provide an acidic-soil conditioner. The lid. part is freed from suspended components formed by the reaction with calcium, is adjusted to a pH of 3.6-8.3 to remove flocculated substances, decolored by treating with an active carbon, and passed through an electrodialysis apparatus equipped with an ion exchange membrane, providing natural quinic acid. |
