The invention relates to a surface-effect ship comprising a central hub (2) and two slender lateral keels (3a, 3b) situated on either side of the central hull, each one defining with the latter and under the dead work of the ship (4) an air tunnel which is open at the bottom onto the surface of the water and closed transversely fore and aft by fore and aft flexible skirts (5a, 5b). Blowers (7a, 7b) are associated respectively with the tunnels in order to blow air into the space extending between the fore and aft skirts and create two separate volumes of overpressurised air each exerting a lift force on the ship. The lower edge (10) of one keel is shaped to emerge partially after the ship has assumed an inclination of roll ( THETA ) in the direction for lifting this keel, so as to create a lateral leakage of air (D) which tends to decrease the lift force of the overpressurised volume of air bounded laterally by this keel in a way which is stronger and faster as the said inclination increases, so as to damp out the rolling motion of the ship. <IMAGE>
